The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Zamboanga Sibugay successfully conducted an Orientation-Workshop on the Barangay Information Governance System for the Liga ng mga Barangay of the Municipality of Tungawan on April 4, 2025 at Palacio del Sur, Zamboanga City. The orientation was facilitated by Mr. Johnrey P. Cobar, Information System Analyst I of DILG Zamboanga Sibugay, and was attended by barangay officials including secretaries, treasurers, kagawads, and punong barangays.

The workshop aimed to introduce and capacitate barangay officials on the proper usage of the BIGS platform, a system developed to strengthen data governance at the barangay level. Mr. Cobar discussed the critical role of BIGS in improving the efficiency and accuracy of reporting requirements submitted by the local government units to the DILG and other national government agencies.

Key topics discussed during the orientation included the establishment and maintenance of the Electronic Registry of Barangay Inhabitants (RBI), which is handled by the Barangay Secretary, and the proper recording and safekeeping of RBI Form A and Form B as prescribed by DILG. The system allows for the easy identification of inhabitants and generates up-to-date demographic data that is vital for planning, service estimation, and decision-making at the barangay level. Moreover, the workshop emphasized the importance of timely and accurate data for compliance with DILG and NGA directives, and how the system supports Katarungang Pambarangay processes through standardized forms.

This initiative reflects the commitment of DILG Zamboanga Sibugay to promote digital transformation and enhance local governance by equipping barangays with the necessary tools and knowledge to manage information effectively and efficiently.
